The Safe Routes to Health AmeriCorps Program at the Michigan Fitness Foundation (SRTH) will be recruiting 12 part-time AmeriCorps members to provide service in select Michigan communities in the 2022-2023 program year. Members will serve on average 20-25 hours per week for a total of 900 hours between October 2022-September 2023.
Members will serve as Community Liaison Coordinators that will increase the capacity for health education and community outreach within their host site. Members will commit their time to promote healthy futures: they will fill gaps and enhance assets in underserved, low-income communities to help residents gain access to supportive environments for healthy eating and physical activity. Each member is assigned a site supervisor who provides mentorship, supervision, and access to professional development opportunities at the host site. Members also participate in ongoing professional development, team building, and at least two outside/group service activities with the SRTH statewide team. Members will receive training in a variety of areas to support service projects, gain valuable skills, and real-world experience.
What exactly will you do as an AmeriCorps member?
Members will serve as local champions to help community members learn about health, wellness, and physical activity through direct service activities in five program elements: Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education inspired interventions, advancing local food systems, supporting COVID-19 response, promoting active lifestyles, and engaging communities through outreach. Each host site utilizes members in unique ways to address the need of their communities. Members will participate in scheduled AmeriCorps days of service, trainings, and professional development.
Why Serve?
Members will receive:
- A total living allowance of $10,584, distributed in equal allotments twice a month
- An education award of $3,172.50 upon successful completion of service that can be used toward student loan payments or for cost of school attendance
- Qualified student loan forbearance
- Qualified student loan interest repayment upon successful completion of service
- Practical experience in community health and education
